I had an "aha!" moment two nights ago. I sat alone on my pretty red couch watching Father of the Bride and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I KNOW why this is one of my all time favorite movies. Steve Martin's character George Banks .... is based on my father.
If you know me, you know I am a daddy's girl to the max. Father of the Bride is the ultimate father/daughter movie. It displays the unique connection between a father and his baby girl. In the movie, when Annie tell her family that she met a man in Rome and is engaged to be married, the look on Steve Martin's face IS MY FATHER. That is the exact face my dad makes when he gets mad. It has taken me all these years to realize that. Also, the scene when he is dancing around in the attic singing "what's new pussycat?" is something my dad would totally do. No, this is not a joke.
Watching that movie makes my heart happy. I cry everytime. When I am so many miles away from my dad it is nice to know I can call him and tell him Father of the Bride is on and we can "watch it together" even though he is over 3 hours away from me. He watches too..... and then calls me to do his impression of "Fronk". I love that man.
On a side note: to the man I marry, you have some BIG shoes to fill. Good luck.

I loved this post... Father of the Bride is one of my favorite movies (I don't think I can make it through without crying!), mostly because it reminds me of me and my dad. I think it's taken me this long to realize how lucky/blessed I am to have the kind of father I do.
yeah, me too! it seems like the older i get and have to deal with men, the more i appreciate my dad.
