the newest addition

Well, here we go y'all. One of the joys of being a "young" blogger is having the decision of when it's the right time to introduce the love interest in your life to your "followers". BTW I feel awkward calling y'all followers because I always think of Jesus. So you are now considered friends (although I'm sure Jesus referred to his followers as friends too). Anyway, on with the point.

Being a single blogger is a little different. You meet a boy and how do you know when you are supposed to blog about him? Does it have to be serious? What if things don't work? So, I have made the executive decision that this one is worth introducing to my "blog friends". Allow me to give you my side of the story.

It was another Friday night in Montgomery and I was out and about with friends. I turn around and there is a boy, not too much taller than me standing there, in my face...

Him: Hey, I'm Kelso
Her: Brooke
Him: I saw you standing by yourself and thought I'd come talk to you......... aaaannnddd my friends dared me to ask for your number.
Her: So you are talking to me because your friends dared you to?
Him: Yes... I mean no, well, I think you're cute.
Her: umm, ok. Thank you?
Him: So about that number?!?!
Her: ((dishes the digits))

A week goes by she is sitting on the couch giggling with a girlfriend when her phone vibrates. It's him. They text back and forth because that is how our generation rolls (might I add I HATE that). She is rude to him via text because she is turned off by his lack of effort.

Another week passes. He attempts to text her again. This time he is a little more smart, he calls to invite her on a date. She hesitantly accepts the offer. He invites her to come to his family's property in west Alabama with directions to wear closed toe shoes and jeans. She walks out of the house in a polo and toms. He sends her back inside to put on a t-shirt. They load up in the truck and ride.... for 45 minutes they ride... and talk.

They arrive to their location and he loads up a four wheeler with a gun and some corn. She wonders if she is going to be the next 48 hours story. Off they go. Riding all around the woods of west Alabama on the perfect Sunday afternoon in early October. They put out cameras, corn and even shoot a possum. By the end of the day they end up sitting next to a pond, talking.

Once the sun starts to set they head back to the truck to load everything up and head back in town to eat pizza at a local restaurant. He takes her home and the date comes to an end.

The end.
Sike.
The beginning.

Y'all meet Nathan Kelso Hamilton III Tada! The new beau. Hope you enjoyed our story. What's your story? Please share on your blog, I'd love to know! A comment won't do it justice!

celebrate we will for life is short but sweet for certain

You have all met Kristi before. Well, for Kristi's birthday I got us tickets to see Dave Matthews in Charlotte, NC. So we loaded up last Tuesday morning to embark on our journey. I was a little nervous, because those of you who know me, know that I am not the best with directions. You also know how much trouble Kristi and I can get into together. Well we made it alive and only got lost once. So, for your viewing pleasure I present:
Tina and B take Charlotte

Headed north up 85

We met these two [Brooke and Jordan] when they pulled up next to us and busted out the "Roll Tide" tent to tailgate. Come to find out they are from Birmingham. Jordan may or may not have come to Montgomery to take Kristi out Sunday.... I'm jusssss sayin......

On the lawn during Amos Lee. Pre rain.

After the concert we met our friends back in the parking lot to hang out for a while. They dared me to let someone draw the firedancer on my back. As you can see, I did it.

taming "the beast"

Summertime brings so much happiness. She brings popsicles, sunsets, bbq's, lemonade and the list could go on for days. I simply adore summertime. Especially hailing from the world's most beautiful beaches, Summer never disappoints. The one thing that Summer has brought with her this year (to my apartment) is huge flying roaches.

These boogers are BIG. I mean the size of your fist big (maybe that is an exaggeration), but you get the point. I have had some encounters with these grotesque bugs.

encounter #1:
The shower. I hopped in the shower at approximately 6:25 a.m. Eyes still closed, half asleep I reach for the shampoo. To my surprise there "it" is .... the beast. My scream awakens the twins and they run to see if I have fallen. Close call, but no fall. So I drown the beast in a cup we had in the shower and flush him down the toilet. Owned.

encounter #2:
The beast makes a flying attack on Michelle while she sweeps the porch. To my dismay he escaped before being demolished.

encounter #3:
Sunday afternoon I am doing dishes when Maria enters the room with a shrill scream. No words, just a scream. I run into the laundry room thinking I have put too many towels into the washer and made it overflow again. Nope, "the beast" in on the door next to my head. So we stand in the kitchen (holding hands) wondering what to do. This is the biggest roach to date that we have slayed. So he scrambles and I grab a cup. I cup him on the floor. We couldn't figure out where to go from there so we put a plate on top of the cup so he couldn't move. Guess what? He suffocated after 3 hours! Slow miserable death. Owned.

So, thank you Summer for all the goodness you bring, but could you please hold off the the massive, nasty roaches that have made my apartment their home?

Happy Birthday America!

Howdy y'all. Sorry for the post drought. My brain has not been functioning properly. Without further ado here is my 4th of July post.

The place:
St. George Island (the closest place to Heaven, just ask this girl). My friend, Katie, grew up on St. George. We stayed at her parents "beach house"(aka 4 story mansion complete with a boardwalk to the beach, hot tub and swimming pool).

The people:
the hostess with the mostess
yours truly
the cousin
the married couple
the almost married couple
the guy with a studder
the guy that kept his crackberry on his side (even poolside)
the shy girl
the 2 random guys, one of which left his wife and kids at home
the life of the party
the roommate
the roommate's boyfriend
the single guy

Activities:
bocce ball, cornhole, belly flops, cook outs, surfing, skim boarding, singing, dancing, offroad adventures, sand fights, fishing, crabbing, rock climbing, laughing, floating, etc.

I should have known how the weekend would go when my road partner and I followed the instruction of the handy dandy Garmin and ended up on a dirt road going mudding on the way down. All in all, the weekend was a complete success full of hapiness and patriotic songs. Sometimes it's amazing what a little sunshine and sand can do for the soul. I am also happy to report NO OIL (yet).

all the single ladies

I'm behind the bride tossing the bouquet at every wedding. I am not ashamed to be the third wheel. I have no problem vegging out on my couch watching chick flicks alone on Friday night. I would like to think that I embrace the joy of having no commitment. I don't have a dog to let out. I don't have a husband to cook for. I don't have a child to pick up. I have me. That.is.it.

It really is a beautiful thing. Sometimes I think to myself "self, take this all in because one day you are going to wish you had it". I smile. I soak it all up. There is something about being single that most girls cannot appreciate. That is independence. Freedom and the oppurtunity do whatever you want.

I have found here recently that dating is a tricky thing. I have never been really good at it. One thing I have found is this: dating in college and dating as a "young professional" are two different ball games. In college you go to a movie with a group of friends, you flirt at a social gathering, you eat at a table together during lunch and things somehow fall into place. How do you meet someone as a "young professional"? A few options: a bar, church, through a friend, the internet or work. There ya go. I said it. Boom.

So prepare yourself for the posts to come. Because I am now dating. So who knows what in the world is going to happen. Wish me luck it is "exclusive".

You aren't going to believe...

Who I met this weekend! I was out and about in Panama City and rumor had it "he" was there. The sad thing is I knew exactly what "he" looked like and tracked him down to introduce myself. Who is "he"? TY FROM THE NEW BACHELORETTE! I am a complete nerd, but I was so excited to meet him. He isn't as attractive in person. He was rather sweaty and wearing a graphic t (which is a big no-no). But now I can say I've met Ty from the bachelorette. Boo ya.
Picture of us together to come. No worries.

funnies as of late

My roommate thought the ipad was a phone and asked last night if you could get service through at&t.

Pamela Anderson on DTWS. Have you ever watched her in the background when Brooke interviews the dancers? You should, quality entertainment.

The random old men sitting in front of us at the biscuits game. One of which drank a daquiri, oh so masculine. We coined him "Margaritaville" and continued to call him that the entire game. He said I stole his quarter, what of it if I did?!?!

My roommates mother and her bf walking in on me laying on the couch, eating chocolate and listnening to "chamagne supernova" at 5:30 Friday afternoon. They are concerned that I am depressed. I assured them that I am just strange.

My Meme telling Faulkner employees/students that she broke her foot because she fell off a table dancing at "Boomerangs" (the local nightclub).

Ricky Martin coming out of the closet and folks acting surprised.
